Sony introduced a new pair of noise-canceling headphones to their line-up. The MDR-NC60 headphones have a built-in mic inside each earpiece which detects outside noise from low-frequency sources and emits an equal and opposite sound wave to cancel out the noise. Tests conducted by Sony claim that they can reduce approximately 16.5dB at the 200Hz level. On the outside of the left earpiece is a switch to turn off the noise cancellation and mute the music so you can listen to external noises such as announcements in a plane. The new MDR-NC60 headphones are priced at $200 and should be available in March.
The headphones, which are battery powered, can be used without the batteries for regular listening purposes. They also sport a swivel ear cup design so they can be packed more easily in the included carrying case
