Microsoft Zune the iPod killer unleashes in October
Posted on July 22, 2006

zune.jpgThe Redmond Giant after seeing the phenomenal success of the iPod has decided to foray into the DAP market. Rumours of its iPod killer the Zune are all over the web since the past few weeks with some saying that Microsoft will officially unveil its so called iPod killer late next month. Microsoft's moves to counter the success of the iPod have also resulted in several code-names, including Argo, Pyxis, Zune, and Alexandria. So what do these code-names actually mean to start with, the entire "We want a share in Apple's pie" initiative is called Project Argo. The Zune is beleived to be an iPod like device you can think of the iPod video with wireless capabilities.

Details are scant about the Pyxis but it is rumoured to take on the iPod Nano, the new device will be similar in size to the Nano and include video capabilities too. Finally, "Alexandria" is believed to be the service that would accompany these devices, much like the synchronous relationship between the iPod and iTunes. So when can we expect better iPods to counter the Microsoft threat - August 7 when the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference kicks off.
