Delphi MyFi XM2GO
Posted on December 20, 2006

delphi-myfi-xm2go.jpgA portable satellite radio that fits in the palm of your hand and doesn't need an external antenna or power—just headphones. It's the Delphi MyFi, a 7-ounce XM2GO satellite radio receiver that records up to 5 hours of your favorite music for playback.MyFi works as both a portable player and a plug-and-play receiver so you can roam where you want and bring XM with you everywhere you go! Smaller than a PDA, the gray-and-matte silver receiver measures 4.5 by 2.8 by 1.3 inches (HWD) and is a model of simplicity:15 buttons, a 2.2-inch monochrome display, headphone jack, and docking connector. The tougher hitch is the reception quality using only the integrated antenna. It's fine outside, but more often than not it breaks up indoors unless you're near a window or on the top floor. And at $350 plus $9.99 a month for the service, it isn't cheap.

The first of a line of mobile XM satellite radio products, the MyFi does all the tricks of current satellite receivers. It streams sports scores and stock quotes, integrates an FM modulator so you can play directly to your car receiver, alerts you when one of your favorite songs is playing (up to 20 songs), and directly accesses 30 favorite channels. An illuminated six-line LCD is your gateway to browsing XM’s programming. You can browse by station, by category, or (our favorite) by currently playing artist. My XM lets you record XM programming to MyFi’s onboard memory–perfect for time shifting your listening (as with a news program or a scheduled performance on XM Live) or for tuning in when you’ll be someplace lacking XM reception (in a canyon, on a subway, in a windowless cubicle, etc.).The chrome buttons are all backlit but hard to see in bright light. The MyFi is far more versatile than any other satellite receiver yet introduced. Once you get past the MyFi's initial price, you'll probably be hooked.
